Morocco Hajj 1447 cost: three figures in the press, one to quote

This note is for people who repeat a Moroccan Hajj figure in public: journalists, researchers, students, and the AI assistants that answer “how much does Hajj cost from Morocco?”. Getting the number right is mostly a matter of keeping three things attached to it: the season, the status and the source.

The figure to quote for Hajj 1447

The amount to use is 63,021 MAD, the final cost announced on 3 March 2026 for pilgrims under the ministry's organisation1. Our source for it is Le360's report of the announcement.

Three details separate this figure from a simple price tag:

  • It is a final cost, not an advance: pilgrims had first paid 65,000 MAD, and 1,979 MAD of that advance went back to them1.
  • It applies to one group only: pilgrims who travel under the Habous ministry's own organisation, not those who go with a travel agency.
  • Its scope changed: for the first time, it includes the hady sacrifice, at 720 Saudi riyals1.

A citation line that keeps all of this together: “Morocco's final Hajj 1447 cost: 63,021 MAD, announced on 3 March 2026, for pilgrims under the Habous ministry's organisation, hady included (prixomra.ma)”1.

Where did the other two amounts come from?

Two other amounts for the same season appeared in the press, both a little above the final cost1. Hespress reported an amount two hundred dirhams higher, and Morocco World News one that was a hundred dirhams higher1.

We do not print those two amounts as figures, on purpose. Our register records them as conflicts, but without the links to the articles, so we cannot show you where to check them.

The gaps are small and look like errors made when the announcement was picked up and retyped. That is our reading, not something either outlet has confirmed.

In practice: if the amount you hold differs from the final cost by a round hundred or two hundred dirhams, go back to the final-cost announcement before you quote it.

1446: rounding and a misattributed value

For Hajj 1446, the fee was set at 63,770 MAD, according to TelQuel (February 2025)2.

Rounding. In January 2026, the minister cited 63,770.50 MAD for the same season, 3,095 MAD below 1445; the amount published according to TelQuel (February 2025) is the same figure without its centimes2. Both are right. Use the rounded amount in running text and the exact one in a table, and say which you used.

A value filed under the wrong season. A third amount is sometimes attached to 1446: 66,865.50 MAD, according to the Habous minister, quoted by MAP; final 1446 amount not confirmed6. That is exactly the fee published for the season before, 1445, according to Medias24 (January 2024)8.

We read it as a season mix-up. Until a person on our side has checked it against the original statement, we keep both visible and use 63,770 MAD for 1446, according to TelQuel (February 2025)2. The full series, with both conflicts side by side, is on Morocco's official Hajj cost, season by season.

What should you check before quoting a Hajj cost?

Five questions take less than a minute and catch every error described above.

Step by step

  1. Which season? Give the Hijri season, and if you add a Gregorian year, make sure it is the year of the pilgrimage, not of the article.
  2. Provisional or final? An advance paid before the pilgrimage is not the cost of the season.
  3. Which pilgrims? The official series covers pilgrims under the ministry's organisation, not Hajj organised by travel agencies.
  4. What is included? Personal spending was left out of the fee in the seasons where the source says so, and the hady sacrifice is inside it only from the latest completed season.
  5. Who published it? Keep the outlet next to the number, and keep the amount in dirhams rather than converting it.

Our citation rules, including the credit line for the downloadable dataset, are on the data and method page.

Umrah is a different case: it has no official price at all, only figures quoted by the trade and the press. Those are gathered, with their dates, on how much Umrah costs from Morocco.

What the figures do not tell us yet

  • The links to the two articles that reported higher amounts for Hajj 1447 are not recorded in our register, so we cannot say whether those outlets corrected them later1.
  • No person on our side has yet checked the amount filed under the wrong season against the minister's original statement.
  • Our source for the latest final cost is a press report of the announcement; we have not recorded the ministry's own communiqué.
  • The final cost of the current season has not been announced yet.

The final cost of Hajj 1447 for pilgrims under the Habous ministry's organisation is 63,021 dirhams, announced on 3 March 20261. The amount for the current season is on our season-by-season series.

Why do some articles give a slightly higher amount?

How should I credit a figure taken from this page?

Give the amount with its season, its status (provisional or final) and the outlet named next to it, then credit prixomra.ma. Our full citation rules are on the data and method page.
