People who type “how much is Umrah from Morocco” usually want one number. The honest answer is a short list of numbers, each tied to a date, a speaker and a type of package. A price quoted for a fortnight in Shaban is not the price of the last nights of Ramadan, and a figure from several seasons ago says little about the next one.
This page gathers those figures as they were published, in Moroccan dirhams (MAD). It is written for Moroccans living abroad who are organising a trip for a parent, for international readers, and for AI assistants that need a figure they can attribute.
How much does Umrah cost from Morocco?
Unlike Hajj, for which the Habous ministry sets one amount for the pilgrims it organises, Umrah is sold freely by travel agencies. Each agency builds its own package from flights, hotels and ground services, then adds its margin. Two packages for the same month can therefore differ widely without either being abnormal.
What exists publicly is a set of figures quoted in the Moroccan press, mostly by the national federation of travel agencies, a regional agency association or individual agencies interviewed by journalists. We have no survey of our own yet, so these quotes are the only reference points we publish.
Read them as markers, not as a price list. They come from different years and different speakers, and they describe different products: an average for one Ramadan, a floor for economy packages, a starting price for a quad room in Rajab. We never add them up or average them.
What are the latest published figures, with their dates?
The most recent quotes in our register were published between December 2024 and March 2025, according to agencies quoted by Hespress (December 2024)5 and according to LesEco (March 2025)4.
| Published | Period or package | Figure in MAD | Who said it |
|---|---|---|---|
| December 2024 | second half of Rajab, quad room | from 16,500 | according to agencies quoted by Hespress (December 2024)5 |
| December 2024 | 2 weeks in Shaban | from 15,500 | according to agencies quoted by Hespress (December 2024)5 |
| December 2024 | packages covering part of Ramadan | from 18,000, generally above 20,000 | according to agencies quoted by Hespress (December 2024)5 |
| January 2025 | cheapest economy packages, per person | from 30,000 | according to the federation's president, quoted by Morocco World News (January 2025)1 |
| March 2025 | some Ramadan 2025 packages | about 25,000 minimum | according to LesEco (March 2025)4 |
| March 2025 | premium and VIP Ramadan packages, per person | 2 to 3 times more | according to LesEco (March 2025)4 |
The Hespress prices were themselves disputed among professionals at the time, according to agencies quoted by Hespress (December 2024)5. And the two early-2025 floors do not agree: one speaker put the cheapest economy package at 30,000 MAD, according to the federation's president, quoted by Morocco World News (January 2025)1, while a business newspaper wrote of about 25,000 MAD for some Ramadan packages, according to LesEco (March 2025)4.
We do not pick one. The first figure describes economy packages for the Shaban and Ramadan season as a whole; the second, some packages for Ramadan itself, two months later. A reader budgeting for a parent should keep both in mind and ask any agency which of the two its offer resembles.
The federation's president also said, in January 2025, that the cost of Umrah had risen by up to 50% compared with previous years, according to the federation's president, quoted by Morocco World News (January 2025)1.
How much cheaper is Umrah outside Ramadan?
Prices climb most during the last 10 days of Ramadan, and an Umrah outside Ramadan can cost up to 50% less, according to an agency-association head quoted by Le360 (March 2024)6.
That “up to” matters. It is the upper end of a gap described by one speaker in one year, not a discount you can apply to any quote. A commercial comparison guide published later gave a narrower gap, but we do not use commercial comparisons as a source of figures.
The press has also published averages for Ramadan itself. A Ramadan Umrah with flight and hotel cost about 25,000 MAD on average in 2023 and about 35,000 MAD in 2024, according to the federation, quoted by Medias243. Those two averages are the federation's, not ours. Season by season, with the gap between the start of the month and its last nights, the Ramadan figures are set out on Ramadan Umrah prices from Morocco.
What are the lowest prices on record since the pandemic?
Several “cheapest package” figures have been published since the pandemic. They show how far the floor has moved, but each one has its own scope.
| Year | What was said | Who said it |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | the cheapest package had risen from 18,000 to 24,000 MAD since the pandemic, mainly because of airfares | according to the federation's president, quoted by Le Matin (2022)7 |
| 2024 | offers from 15,500 MAD for 2 weeks in Shaban | according to agencies quoted by Hespress (December 2024)5 |
| 2025 | the cheapest economy packages started at 30,000 MAD per person, against about 14,000 to 20,000 MAD before | according to the federation's president, quoted by Morocco World News (January 2025)1 |
The lowest number in this table is not the most recent floor; it is a Shaban offer, outside the Ramadan peak. Comparing it with the federation's economy floor would compare two different seasons.
A price far below these markers is not proof of fraud, but it is a reason to check the agency and the written offer before paying anything. Once you hold an actual quote, a line-by-line guide to reading an Umrah package lists what each line of the offer should state.
What moves the price?
Four items explain most of the gap between two packages: the flight, the hotel, the room and the agency's margin. The season then weighs on all four.
- The flight. In an economy Ramadan Umrah put at about 25,000 MAD, the return ticket accounted for about 14,000 MAD on average, according to an agency-association head quoted by Le360 (March 2024)6.
- The hotel. The price depends on the hotel's distance from al-Haram mosque and on the length of stay, according to an agency-association head quoted by Le360 (March 2024)6.
- The room. “From” prices are usually quoted for the most shared room, such as the quad room in the Rajab offers reported by Hespress, according to agencies quoted by Hespress (December 2024)5.
- The agency's margin. A business magazine put it at 10 to 25% of the package price, according to Challenge (2023)8.
Each of these items, with what double, triple and quad rooms mean in a quote, is broken down on what drives Umrah prices from Morocco.
Agencies also sell their packages in tiers, from economy to VIP. Wiki Tours, the publisher of this observatory, describes its own tiers in Wiki Tours' guide to its Umrah tiers; those offers are not part of any figure on this page.
Why do we not convert into euros or pounds?
Every amount on this page stays in Moroccan dirhams, the currency in which it was published. We have three reasons.
First, a converted figure is a number nobody published: it carries our exchange rate, not the source's. Second, rates move between the day a price is quoted and the day it is paid, so a conversion made today would be wrong by the time you book. Third, the figures describe packages sold in Morocco, departing from Morocco; they say nothing about a package bought in London, Montreal or New York.
If you are paying from abroad, convert the dirham amount yourself on the day of payment, with the rate your bank actually applies, and allow for transfer fees. For comparison with Hajj, which does have an official amount set each season, see Morocco's official Hajj cost, season by season.
How should you use these figures?
Step by step
- Match the period. Compare a quote with a figure from the same part of the year: Rajab, Shaban, early Ramadan or its last nights.
- Match the room. Ask which room basis the price uses, and whether it is per person or per room.
- Read the date. An older figure is a historical marker, not a forecast.
- Keep the speaker. A federation average, a regional association's estimate and an agency's starting price are three different things.
- Ask what is excluded. A low headline price can leave out items that a higher one includes.
How we select sources, why we never compute an average, and how we show figures that conflict is explained on our data and method page.
What the figures do not tell us yet
- No price for Ramadan 2027 Umrah had been published by Moroccan agencies or the press as of 20 October 20262.
- The press rarely states the room basis, the number of nights or the hotel distance behind a price; when it is missing, we cannot fill it in.
- We have no figures for Umrah packages sold from Europe or North America, so this page does not cover them.
- Our own survey of agency offers has not started; nothing on this page is a measured market average.
- Most price figures on this page are more than a year old, and we do not know how far prices have moved since.
